Thomas Beerdsen wins Karel Janeček Open at Prague International Chess Festival 2025
GM Thomas Beerdsen (NED) and GM Karen Grigoryan (ARM) scored an unbeaten 7.5/9 each at Karel Janeček Rating Open part of Prague International Chess Festival 2025. Thomas won the tournament due to better tie-breaks scores, Karen had to settle for second place. Eight players scored 7/9 each. Out of them, GM Evgenios Ioannidis (GRE) was placed third. The top three prizes were CZK 30000 + trophy, 20000 and 15000 each. GM Raja Rithvik R is the sole Indian to make a top ten finish. He scored 7/9 to be placed seventh. 45th Olympiad double Gold medalist, IM Vantika Agrawal is the top female finisher. She scored 6.5/9 to finish 18th overall and receive the Best Woman prize. Christian Gloeckler becomes the latest International Master of Germany
13-year-old FM Christian Gloeckler became the newest IM of Germany. He scored an unbeaten 7/9, performed at 2482 and gained 36 Elo rating points to earn his final IM-norm and also cross 2400 in the live ratings. WFM Antonia Christodoulaki (GRE) scored 5.5/9 to secure a WIM-norm.

A total of 306 players including 15 GMs, 31 IMs, 4 WGMs and a WIM took part from 48 countries across the world. The nine-day nine round Rating Open tournament was organized by Novy Bor Chess Club at Don Giovanni Hotel in Prague, Czechia from 27th February to 7th March 2025. The time control of the event was 40 moves in 90 minutes + 30 minutes + 30 seconds increment from move no.1.
