Siddhanth Poonja dominates 21st BRDCA Rapid Rating Open 2025
Siddhanth Poonja scored an unbeaten 8.5/9 to win 21st BRDCA Rapid Rating Open 2025. He finished a half point ahead of the rest. Sailesh R, FM Rohit S and IM Ramnathan Balasubramaniam scored 8/9 each. They secured second, third and fourth place respectively according to tie-breaks. Siddhanth defeated the eventual second runner-up, Rohit in the seventh round and drew against the runner-up, Sailesh in the final round. The total prize fund was ₹250000. The top three prizes were ₹30000, ₹25000 and ₹20000 along with a trophy each. Siddhanth's second rating tournament triumph in a week
12-year-old Siddhanth Poonja made a fantastic start by winning eight games in-a-row. He was the sole leader heading into the final round. Sailesh R was the only player trailing him by a half point. A draw was enough for Siddhanth to become a champion. That's what he did against Sailesh who secured second place. FM Pranav K P lost to FM Rohit S who finished third. Siddhanth won 13th CircleChess Rapid Rating Open 2025 on 10th August and five days later he won this event.
A total of 517 players including an IM took part from all over the country, one from Canada and England each, three from the USA. The one-day nine round Rapid Rating Open tournament was organized by BRDCA (Bengaluru Rural District Chess Association) at Sri Manjunatha Swamy Kalyanamantapa, Hosakote in Bengaluru, Karnataka on 15th August 2025. The time control of the event was 15 minutes + 5 seconds increment per move.
